The Spanish one-day race, Clásica Jaén Paraiso Interior, is set to attract the attention of cycling enthusiasts as it aims to lure the renowned Dutch cyclist, Mathieu van der Poel, to its gravel sectors. With Tadej Pogacar's recent victory, the race has already made a name for itself, but the organizers have their sights set on an even bigger star. The race director, Pascual Momparler, is confident that the race's unique challenges and growing reputation will entice top riders like van der Poel, who is a former gravel World Champion and reigning cyclocross world champion. However, Momparler acknowledges the challenge of attracting such a selective calendar of top riders, who prioritize their training and preparation for specific races like the spring classics or the Giro d'Italia and Tour de France. The race's short history and 1.1 ranking also play a role in its appeal, requiring clear and extended communication with riders and their representatives to secure their participation. Despite the challenges, Momparler is optimistic about the race's future, aiming to bring in van der Poel in 2027 with a compelling offer, just as they did with Tom Pidcock this year.
