A significant gas release at a natural gas pipeline hub has prompted urgent evacuations in the area.
In the late hours of December 25, 2025, just after 11 p.m., the Beechwood Fire Department received an emergency call reporting that pressure relief valves were discharging natural gas at the ANR Pipeline Company located at W8715 Tower Drive in southwest Sheboygan County. This company specializes in the transportation and delivery of natural gas across various regions in the United States, ensuring that homes and businesses have the energy they need.
Upon arrival at the scene, firefighters encountered several towering vertical pipes expelling natural gas at an alarming rate. The force of the gas release generated a thunderous noise that could be heard from miles away, creating an immediate sense of urgency.
To ensure public safety, firefighters quickly initiated an evacuation procedure, sending out a cellphone alert to residents within a one-mile radius of the facility. Those affected were advised to seek refuge at the Beechwood Fire Department.
Given the extensive nature of the evacuation, a MABAS (Mutual Aid Box Alarm System) call was made, which activated neighboring fire departments to lend support. Additionally, multiple ambulances were dispatched from locations as distant as Sheboygan and West Bend to assist in case of any medical emergencies.
As the situation unfolded, a strong southeast wind, blowing at approximately 15 miles per hour, carried the gas fumes westward, prompting residents in the Dundee area to report a noticeable smell of gas. Remarkably, the loud roar of escaping gas was audible even seven miles from the source of the leak.
By midnight, technicians from the ANR facility arrived on-site and successfully shut off the gas flow just minutes later. Firefighters were then assigned the critical task of inspecting nearby homes to ensure that no dangerous buildup of gas had occurred indoors.
An all-clear signal was issued shortly after 1 a.m., allowing those who had evacuated to return home safely.
This incident raises important questions about safety measures in place at such facilities. How prepared are communities for emergencies like these? What protocols exist to protect residents during hazardous situations? These are crucial discussions to have, especially as incidents like this can happen anywhere.
